Meet Support Desk Analyst - Bernald Baluyot

Written by Hannah Donnelly | January 25, 2022

As we push forward into 2022, we are proud to welcome new team members on board to help us deliver exceptional service to our customers. We'd like you to meet one of our newest Tier 1 Support Desk Analysts – Bernald Baluyot, who started with us in December.

What is your role at Diamond IT?

My role as a Support Desk Analyst provides technical support to customers with their software, hardware, and network issues. Currently a Tier 1, I am at the 'forefront' of receiving phone calls and inquiries which tests my quick thinking and ability to troubleshoot on the fly.

I’m looking forward to helping provide a great experience for our customers.

Why did you choose a career in technology?

It’s been my lifelong goal to enter the IT industry. I was exposed to technology at a very young age when I started using Windows 98 thanks to my Uncle, and it went on from there.

As I grew older, I liked tinkering around pieces of tech, disassembling them to check their internal workings to check how they function and building them back up. I found myself 'geeking out' over any piece of tech - computers, smartphones, consoles, IoTs, and network hardware.

I am motivated by cutting-edge technology and the ever-changing landscape of the IT industry.

Tell us a bit about your background?

Prior to Diamond IT, I worked in the food industry whilst studying a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking from Curtin University part-time. I’m now in my penultimate year of study.

I also have a Diploma and Certificate IV in Information Technology Networking and have taken half of my bachelor’s degree in Information and Communications Technology from San Beda University in the Philippines for future study here in Australia.

Aside from learning, I’ve built computers and troubleshot software and hardware issues for family and friends. I also like to do home projects. In 2019, I designed a home network for my parents’ house consisting of Ubiquiti Unifi products which I deployed myself.

What’s your favourite piece of technology?

My favourite piece of tech would be my smartphone. Phones have advanced at a rapid rate in terms of feature sets. From old brick phones to folding displays, a 2 Megapixel camera to a whopping 108 Megapixel camera, the WAP browser during the early 2000s to access the internet to the modern version we use today, and many more.

Back then phones could only do phone calls and messaging, along with the quirky phones Nokia released. Now they are powerful enough to be an alternative to your computer when you’re on the go.

When you’re not at work, where would we find you?

I like trying out various things, so you’ll be able to find me just about anywhere. I could be playing my guitar, riding my bike, or exploring different places. I would love to experience skydiving in the future!
