Diamond IT Women in Technology

On Sunday March 8 we celebrated International Women's Day. This years theme is #EachForEqual, which is all about actively choosing to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements.

Over the month of March, we will be introducing you to our dynamic Women in Technology in a four part series. We'd like you to meet our Marketing Team, Samantha Cordell and Hannah Taylor.

Samantha Cordell - Group Marketing Manager

Sam Cordell

  1. Can you share a little bit about what you do and what a typical day is like for you?

A typical day is so varied, depending on the type of campaigns we have running at the time. We generally have a few on the go simultaneously across our product & services offerings whether we are nurturing existing customers or targeting new leads.

  1. How did you come to find yourself working in the technology industry?

I fell into the IT Industry after studying a combination of computer science and marketing at Uni. I actually started out in operations for an IT company before going on to work for a marketing agency specialising in IT centric organisations. This led to a stint working overseas where I was lucky enough to work right in the heart of technology for Intel Corporation and Microsoft.

How do you think advances in technology will impact your role?

One of the reasons why I love this industry is the fast pace of change in technology and the profound effect it can have on businesses of any size. I have always looked for ways to use technology in my role to help me be more productive, starting way back with short cuts in excel when doing marketing budgets. Right now it is all about data and analytics and the awesome BI tools available to support marketing strategies.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry?

Embrace the changes in technology and explore ways to use technology to your advantage, the possibilities are endless.

Hannah Taylor - Marketing Communications Specialist

Hannah Taylor-1Can you share a little bit about what you do and what a typical day is like for you?

I am the Marketing Communications Specialist for Diamond IT. A typical day for me involves working with our Group Marketing Manager, Business Technology Specialist, and the Directors to educate the market on how they can use technology to help them succeed. I love that my days are always a mixed bag, with anything from editing web pages, to sending our eNews, planning our next Diamond Series Event, executing our social media strategy, to reporting on current campaigns.

How did you come to find yourself working in the technology industry?

I am quite new to the Technology industry, and started my career with Diamond in 2019. I’ve always had an interest in understanding and administrating systems. In a past life, a component of my role was actually technical support and O365 Administration (this included anything from setting up new laptops for the team to SharePoint set up, training and procedure writing, improvement projects and LOTS of troubleshooting support for the team), so when I saw the Marketing role advertised with DIT, I thought it would be really interesting and a great fit for the experience I had.

How do you think advances in technology will impact your role?

Automation is a marketers best friend, and it’s capabilities are only going to to increase. The amount of data you can gather about your current and potential customers through technology is amazing, and leads to better outcomes for all parties.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry?

The tech industry is one of the most fast paced out there. Don't be afraid to continually ask questions- just make sure they are the right ones. While I'm a big big believer in self teaching, you'll meet so many brilliant brains in the IT industry, so don't forget to lean on your networks to learn when you need. The expertise you'll find will blow your mind.
